At Mbelei Secondary School, they needed more help with grafting avocado trees. So, the SEPA organization brought a grafting expert. This expert’s job was to train three students—Bakari, Emmanuel, and Musa—who already knew a bit about grafting. SEPA representatives Aneth Ndyetabula (Chairperson) and Swaum Kibira (Executive Secretary) were there to help too.
The training was super important because it taught the students exactly what to do when they went out to graft the trees. Everyone worked hard during the training, asking questions and practicing until they got it just right. The training was conducted at SEPA’s nursery on the 13th of March, 2024.
After the training, everyone felt confident and ready to start grafting in the field. They knew they had learned valuable skills that would help them succeed. With their new knowledge and excitement, they were eager to get started and help the avocado trees at Mbelei Secondary.
The stuff they learned during the training will be super useful in their life because few people have expertise in grafting. Grafting is a big deal in our communities. It’s like a job where experts help farmers by grafting trees and starting nurseries. They graft young trees from their nurseries and sell them to farmers. It’s a way to make money (self-employment) and help out farmers at the same time.
